Highlights of the Year 2022-23

Casework Service

  • In May 2020, a three-year pilot project titled “Use of Innovation and Virtual Reality Technology for Enhancement of Psychological Trauma Treatment Protocol” was launched with funding support from the Innovation, Technology & Industry Bureau.  The project involved the participation of 110 service users and was successfully completed.
  • Developed 2 therapeutic manuals: “What’s My Body Telling Me” to help children understand emotions through bodily responses, and “Journey in the Wind” based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy principles to assist individuals in managing emotions and living a life aligned with their personal values.
  • Organised parenting groups based on cognitive-behavioural therapy to enhance parents’ understanding of children’s gaming addiction issues and establish effective parent-child communication patterns. Conducted a Therapeutic Sleep Hygiene Group for service users experiencing insomnia problems, utilising cognitive-behavioural principles.  Organised a Parenting Support Group based on emotion-focused therapy.

Central Psychological Support Service

  • The Central Psychological Support Service (Adult Service) organised a training session on the application of narrative practices in rehabilitation services for over 40 educational psychologists.  
  • The service leaflets of the Central Psychological Support Service (Pre-school Service) have been updated this year, and both Chinese and English versions have been uploaded to SWD’s website.  The service team has also completed an animated short film titled “Improving Children’s Attention in their Everyday Lives” and uploaded it to SWD’s YouTube channel.  Meanwhile, clinical psychologists collaborated with rehabilitation units that provide integrated pre-school services to conduct an online emotional cognition and mindfulness training course for pre-schoolers.  This year, a total of 160 pre-schoolers from 28 pre-schools/centres participated in the programme.

Crisis Intervention

  • In response to the incident at the MIRROR concert in July 2022, CPSB’s senior clinical psychologist promoted strategies for coping with unexpected tragedies to help alleviate the psychological stress caused by such events.

Public Education

  • Released the biannual publication “CPSB Newsletter”, which is available in both physical and electronic formats, in October 2022 to enhance public awareness of mental health.
  • Created 2 psychological education animations: “Rewire the Brain,” which emphasises the importance of positive interpersonal relationships in the development of self-worth and worldview, and “Conquer Addiction,” which introduces strategies to overcome addictions related to sexual behaviours.
  • Produced 5 psychological education leaflets. “Life Review Conversations with Elderly” helps seniors reflect on their life experiences and gain a sense of fulfilment, while “Say Goodbye to Dark Eye Circles: Tips for Sounder Sleep” provides suggestions for improving sleep.  Leaflets related to COVID-19 recovery include “Mental Health Self-care Strategies,” “Trauma-Informed Self Care for Helping Professionals,” and “Understanding the Negative Impact on Children’s Social Development due to Disruption of School Attendance”.
  • Hosted the regular “Minding Psychology” segment on RTHK1, with 51 episodes completed this year.  Similarly, it has been promoting mental health information for the elderly on the television programme “TVB Old Buddies”.

Professional Training

  • Throughout the year, 109 training courses have been provided to professionals from different fields.
