District Highlights 2022-2023

Sham Shui Po Well-being Movement

  • This year, the Sham Shui Po District Social Welfare Office (District Social Welfare Office), through the “Sham Shui Po Well-Being Movement” campaign, mobilised 17 social service units and organisations in the district to organise uplifting activities under the “Happiness Alliance”.  Besides, the District Social Welfare Office organised a district signature event on 7 January 2023, called the “Happiness Tour in Sham Shui Po ~ Happiness Mobile Van”.  On that day, the “Happiness Mobile Van”, adorned with slogans featuring trendy expressions of happiness, was parked at Fu Cheong Estate, Pak Tin Estate, Mei Foo Sun Chuen and Un Chau Estate to promote positive energy in the community.

Caring for Inclusion

  • The District Social Welfare Office collaborated with rehabilitation service units in the district to establish the “Platform for Strengthening Support to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Sham Shui Po” (the Platform), and created a Facebook page called “Showing Love to ‘Sham’ Carers”.  The aim is to provide online information for carers of PWDs in the district, enhance their caregiving abilities and alleviate their stress.  This year, the Platform, in collaboration with special schools, organised a series of relaxation programmes and visitation activities for their carers.  An inter-school parent-child event called “Sham Joy Happy Day” was also held to show support to the carers.
  • Besides, the District Social Welfare Office partnered with 5 social services organisations to establish the Working Group for Promoting Volunteer Services in Sham Shui Po.  This year the Working Group organised volunteer training sessions, volunteer service projects and volunteer award ceremony with the mental well-being and digital application among the elderly as the theme.

Extending Support Network

  • Since 2009, the District Social Welfare Office has been implementing 2 Community Networking Projects, namely “Caring Nam Cheong” and “Neighbour Support”, in collaboration with local welfare organisations.  This year, the 2 projects, through street stations, door-to-door visits, home visits, concern calls and material assistance, identified underprivileged families residing in private buildings and referred them to appropriate mainstream services neighbourhood.

Promoting Career Planning

  • Since 2013, the District Social Welfare Office has been collaborating with the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, the Hong Kong Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute, the Hong Kong Christian Service, the Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Young Women Christian Association and the Caritas Hong Kong to organise the “Job Shadowing Mentorship Programme”.  The mentees had the opportunity to visit the mentors’ workplaces during the summer break to know about the realities of the corporate world.  Meanwhile, the mentors shared their success stories with the youngsters, inspiring them to plan for their careers.
