Subvented Homes
Introduction
Care and Attention Homes for the Elderly or Nursing Homes operated by non-governmental organisations aim to provide subsidised residential care services for elderly persons who are assessed and recommended for Care and Attention Home or Nursing Homes under the Standardised Care Need Assessment Mechanism for Elderly Services (SCNAMES).
Subvented Care and Attention Homes
Subvented Care and Attention Homes for the Elderly provide residential care, meals, personal care and limited nursing care for elders who suffer from poor health or physical/mild mental disabilities with deficiency in activities of daily living.
To promote a continuum-of-care in subsidised residential care services for elderly person, some care-and-attention places have gradually been converted/upgraded as care-and-attention places providing a continuum-of-care such that better care and support is to be provided to meet service users' changing needs in the same home even when their health conditions deteriorate.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for admission to a care and attention home for the elderly, an applicant should be:
- aged 65 or above*;
- assessed to be suitable for admission to Care and Attention Homes for the Elderly through the Standardised Care Need Assessment Mechanism for Elderly Services; and
- mentally suitable for communal living.
* Persons aged between 60 and 64 may apply if there is a proven need for residential care based on health and/or social grounds, subject to their meeting the admission criteria.
Monthly Fee
- Homes converted/upgraded to provide Care-and-Attention Places with a Continuum- of-Care:
- $2,060
- Care-and-Attention Places:
- $1,871 - Disability Allowance recipient;
(including Disability Allowance recipient who has been admitted to existing place before 1.4.2013 but opt to receive Old Age Living Allowance on or after 1.4.2013)
- $1,660 - Non-Disability Allowance recipient.

Subvented Nursing Homes
Subvented Nursing Homes provide residential care, meals, personal care, regular basic medical and nursing care for the elderly persons who suffer from poor health or physical/mental disabilities with deficiency in activities of daily living. Having regard to their health condition, the elderly persons cannot adequately be taken care of in Care and Attention Homes for the Elderly yet do not require the intensive medical and nursing care provided in infirmaries.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for admission to a nursing home, an applicant should be:
- aged 65 or above *;
- assessed to be suitable for admission to Nursing Homes through the Standardised Care Need Assessment Mechanism for Elderly Services; and
- mentally suitable for communal living and with no persistent tendency to violence, self-destruction/self-injury or disruptive behaviour.
* Persons aged between 60 and 64 may apply if there is a proven need for residential care based on health and/or social grounds, subject to their meeting the admission criteria.
Monthly Fee
Nursing Home places:
- $2,054.
