"Jockey Club Facilities Enhancement Scheme for Pandemic Preparedness at Residential Care Homes" - Ventilation Improvement Works

Background

To enhance the overall efficacy of the ventilation condition of the Residential Care Homes (RCHs), the SWD in co-ordination with the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) and the Buildings Department completed on-site assessment to the private/self-financing RCHs and contract homes operated by private organisations on their ventilation system in 2022. Improvement recommendations were made in the individual RCH’s ventilation assessment report (VA report) for their follow up on the ventilation improvement measures with a view to reducing the risk of virus transmission.

In order to support the RCHs to conduct timely improvement works as recommended in the VA report, funding support from the “Jockey Club facilities Enhancement Scheme for Pandemic Preparedness at Residential Care Homes (the Scheme)” of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust will be provided to the above-mentioned RCHs for their improvement of the ventilation system.

Details of the Scheme and Application Criteria

  • The objective of the Scheme is to provide one-off subsidy for the private and self-financing residential care homes for persons with disabilities (RCHDs), private and self-financing residential care homes for the elderly (RCHEs), contract homes operated by private organisations and self-financing nursing homes (including those registered under the Department of Health) who have completed the ventilation system assessment by EMSD to carry out the improvement works. The RCHs must have a lease with a validity period of not less than 6 months when applying for the subsidy. RCHs that have not participated in the ventilation system assessment by EMSD, and RCHs that have participated in the assessment but will cease operation shortly, are not eligible to apply for the Scheme.
  • SWD conducted two briefing sessions for RCHs on 12 April 2023 and 30 May 2023 respectively to introduce the details of the Scheme.
