Visiting Medical Practitioner Service for Residential Care Homes

Introduction

To enhance the service quality of private and self-financing RCHEs and RCHDs, the Social Welfare Department provides Visiting Medical Practitioner Service to the residents of all private and self-financing RCHEs and RCHDs, so as to promote proactive management of seasonal influenza and other episodic illnesses for improvement of the general health of the residents and to reduce their reliance on the public healthcare system.

Service Scope

• on-site medical treatment and management of episodic illness and sub-acute problems of the Service Users;
• regular health assessment and medical examination of the Service Users;
• assessment on the formulation of care plans having regard to the health conditions of the Service Users, including the use of restraint, other rehabilitative or assistive devices;
• advice on maintaining proper records of health conditions of the Service Users, including medication records;
• telephone consultation on the management of medical conditions of the Service Users; and
• training to staff of RCHs on health care and infection control.

Service Fee

Free of charge (including medication consultation and medicines).
