Yan Chai Tetraplegic Fund

Established by the Yan Chai Hospital Board in September 2004 to provide assistance to relieve the financial difficulties of tetraplegic patients by supporting their living in the community and improving their quality of living.

Beneficiaries

  • The Fund mainly provides assistance for tetraplegic patients with spinal injury at or above level 5 of cervical spine or equivalent disability if their families experience financial hardship in paying for the expenses arising from the rehabilitation and caring of tetraplegic patients at home.
  • Tetraplegic patients staying in any residential institution, such as hospital, residential home for people with disabilities, or boarding school will not become beneficiaries. However, those tetraplegic patients who have potential to be discharged from the institutions and have concrete discharge plan to live at home are eligible to apply.
  • Tetraplegic patients on CSSA scheme can apply if such special expenses are not covered by CSSA.

Categories of Assistance

  • Essential expenses for the purchase of medical / rehabilitation appliances and repair service for these items;
  • Essential expenses on home modifications based on professional recommendations from qualified therapists;
  • Temporary grants for coping with special needs (e.g. personal helper, occasional care, medical consumable items, escort service, personal care items and minor traveling expenses for attending medical consultations and training etc.); and
  • Other special grants which the Fund Committee considers appropriate in supporting the community living of tetraplegic patients.
