A 2: | If you want to apply forcommunity support services,,you can directly approach the service unit for service. If you or your family member wants to receiveday trainingorresidential services,you can approach your school social worker, medical social worker, family caseworker or staff of respective rehabilitation unit to make the application vide our Central Referral System for Rehabilitation Services. |
Q 3: | My family member is waiting for a placement in a hostel for the mentally handicapped. If I want to know how long I should wait, where can I get the information? |

A 3: | We used to disseminate information on the latest service provisions and the waiting list statistics at regular intervals to concerned service units of the Department and NGOs, from whom the public can obtain information whenever necessary. For information on individual application, the responsible caseworker can contact us on behalf of the applicant. We would only answer enquiries from the responsible caseworker after verification of relevant particulars. |

A 4: | If you encounter problem in caring for your mentally handicapped family member, or if you consider your present abode not suitable for him/her to live in, you can approach your school social worker, medical social worker, family caseworker or staff of respective rehabilitation unit to make appropriate referral for residential service;according to your circumstances and needs, or to arrange forcommunity support serviceor day trainingto solve any care or adjustment problem encountered by your family. |
Q 5: | Is Halfway House service a long term residential arrangement to the persons in mental recovery? |

A 5: | :Halfway House is a rehabilitation service which provides the persons in mental recovery with transitional residential care and tailor-made training programmes to enhance service users' social adjustment ability in order that they can finally lead an independent life in the community after residential training. So, it is not a long term residential arrangement |
Q 6: | Should the applicant of Halfway House service apply for any sheltered workshop placement first? |

A 6: | No, it depends on the vocational training need of the applicant. Sheltered workshop training is only one of the various types of vocational training service to meet the need of applicant. So, the applicant of Halfway House is not required to apply for sheltered workshop at the same time. |
Q 7: | My elderly mother will be discharged from hospital soon. She is so frail that she can no longer take care of herself. What can we do? |

A 7: | 病Patient or her family members can approach the Medical Social Services Unit of the hospital the patient is attending. Medical Social Workers would assess the needs of the patient and introduce or refer appropriate social support services e.g. home help service, elderly day care centre, for her. |
Q 8: | I intend to operate a residential care home for persons with disabilities. How to apply for a licence? |

A 8: | The Residential Care Homes (Persons with Disabilities) Ordinance (the Ordinance) commenced operation on 18 November 2011 and fully implemented on 10 June 2013. The Ordinance provides for the control of residential care homes for persons with disabilities (RCHDs) through a licensing scheme administered by the Director of Social Welfare. Any person who operates, keeps, manages or in any other way has control of an RCHD without a valid licence or certificate of exemption commits an offence. The maximum penalty on conviction is a fine at level 6 ($100,000 at present) and imprisonment for two years, and in the case of a continuing offence, a further fine of $10,000 for each day can be imposed.
